Petition to Reinstate Africana, La Casa, Human Rights and Art as Activism, and Global Cuis
The Issue
Dear Douglass,
We, the undersigned, express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the discontinuation of Africana House, La Casa, Human Rights, Art as Activism, and Global Cuisine Programs. These invaluable programs have played a crucial role in fostering diversity, inclusivity, and cultural exchange within our community.
Africana House, La Casa, Human Rights, Art as Activism, and Global Cuisine Programs have long served as pillars of cultural education, providing a platform for individuals to explore, appreciate, and celebrate the rich tapestry of human experiences. These programs have not only promoted a greater understanding of different cultures and perspectives but have also encouraged dialogue, collaboration, and creative expression among our community members.
By dismantling these programs, we fear that our community is losing an essential part of its identity and cultural enrichment. Concurrently, the removal of these programs has openly contradicted the message preached by the Douglass Residential College of women's empowerment, communal engagement, inclusivity, and the diversification of identity and experience.
We believe that the restoration of these programs is not only vital for the well-being of our community but also aligns with the values of diversity, inclusion, and education that our institution stands for.
We, the undersigned, respectfully request the following actions be taken:
1. The immediate reinstatement of Africana House, La Casa, Human Rights, Art as Activism, and Global Cuisine Programs.
2. Adequate and equitable funding and resource allocation to ensure the continued success and sustainability of these programs.
3. A transparent and inclusive process for community input and involvement in the development and improvement of these programs.
We believe that by reinstating these programs, we are taking a significant step toward creating a more inclusive, diverse, and culturally vibrant community.
We look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and hope for a positive response in the near future.
