Petition to Reconsider Port Jeff Parking Rate

Petition to Reconsider Port Jeff Parking Rate
The Issue
Parking Rates increased from $1 to 2.60 Monday through Thursday and 3.74 per hour Friday through Sunday enforcement times extended from 12-8 to now 12-12
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, employees, visitors, and patrons of Port Jefferson Village, respectfully request that the Village immediately reconsider and reduce the recent parking rate increases.
Port Jefferson has long been a vibrant destination for shopping, dining, entertainment, tourism, and community events. The success of our village depends on visitors being able to conveniently and affordably access our businesses.
Since the parking rate increases were implemented, many businesses have reported customer complaints, reduced foot traffic, and concerns that visitors are choosing alternative destinations with more affordable parking options. Small businesses are already facing significant economic challenges, including rising operating costs, inflation, labor expenses, and seasonal fluctuations.
We believe these parking increases:
● Discourage visitors from shopping and dining in Port Jefferson.
● Negatively impact local retailers, restaurants, and service businesses. ● Reduce the competitiveness of Port Jefferson compared to neighboring communities. ● Create an unnecessary burden on residents, employees, and tourists. ● Threaten the economic vitality and long-term success of our Village.
We respectfully request that Village officials:
1. Immediately review the impact of the parking rate increases.
2. Reduce parking rates to a level that supports local commerce and tourism. 3. Meet with business owners and community stakeholders to discuss alternative solutions. 4. Conduct a transparent economic impact assessment before implementing future parking increases.
Port Jefferson's businesses are the heart of our community. We urge Village leadership to work collaboratively with business owners, residents, and visitors to find a solution that supports both Village operations and economic
