PETITION To RECALL HOUSE BILL 1819 AND REINSTATE CITY CURFEW.
The Issue
PETITION To RECALL HOUSE BILL 1819 AND REINSTATE CITY CURFEW. We, the residents of Beaumont, Texas, are calling on city leaders to take immediate action to reinstate the citywide curfew by December 31, 2026. Teen related crime and violence have increased significantly, creating a serious public safety concern. Current data indicates that juveniles are responsible for approximately 30% of murder suspects, 14% of aggravated assault suspects, and 6% of additional violent crimes suspects in Beaumont. This trend is alarming and poses a growing threat to our community- especially to our elderly residents. The data also shows that our children are being impacted at an unacceptable and alarming rate. We therefore propose that the original curfew be reinstated.Curfews are a proven and effective tool to help reduce crime, limit victimization, and support law enforcement efforts. Our officers are working tirelessly and need additional measures in place to help protect our community and save our children. We are requesting the reinstatement of the standard curfew hours: 10:00pm on weekdays (Sunday through Thursday) 12am (midnight) on weekends (Friday and Saturday). It is critical that house bill 1819 be recalled or amended as necessary, by December 31,2026, to address this safety concern.
