Petition to Raise the Rails

Petition to Raise the Rails
The Issue
On average, 3 people a year jump off of the Gorge Bridge. So far this year, there have been 6, with 3 alone in the month of September and a 4th that was successfully intervened.
The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is not only a breathtaking landmark but also a critical infrastructure that connects communities in Taos County. Yet, the current railings on the bridge fall short of ensuring public safety, posing significant risks. Additionally, Taos County is facing an urgent need for enhanced mental health services and trauma support for its residents.
Firstly, it is imperative that funds are allocated to raise the railings on the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge as soon as possible. This crucial step will provide necessary crisis intervention as well as improve overall safety for both locals and visitors. Public safety must be a top priority, and ensuring the structural integrity of this vital connection is essential.
Alongside infrastructure improvements, there's a pressing need to allocate the funds that have been approved for mental health services and trauma support in Taos County. With the rising mental health challenges and trauma cases, providing sufficient resources, staffing, and facilities can help alleviate the strain on the existing healthcare system. Investing in mental health is an investment in the well-being and future of our community.
Finally, we urge Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to initiate a meaningful dialogue with the Taos community. Open conversations can bridge the gap between policies and community needs, fostering collaboration and ensuring that the implemented measures truly resonate with those they aim to serve.
By signing this petition, you join us in advocating for safer infrastructure and stronger mental health support in Taos County. Let's work together to make a profound impact on our community and secure a healthier future for all. Please sign and share this petition to show your support for these vital initiatives.
