We are not having a lot of success in regards to making the sex trade an "allowable use in an industrial area." The city is working on fixing symptomatic issues stemming from the sex trade. After meeting with city planners and with CLR Jang, it is clear that the policy is that the city is working towards inclusion for where the sex trade workers live and work. The issue is not where the sex trade workers live. The issue is that the sex trade has no business in residential areas, especially around our children. This is not a debate about the sex trade. It is not going anywhere. It is about safety for the sex trade workers and for our residential areas. We need your support. Please send your impact statements to dickenscommunitywatch@hotmail.com. Please make sure to call non emergency with any reports.
Vancouver has pushed through medical marijuana. Vancouver has pushed through Insite. It is possible to bring the sex trade to an area where the women feel welcome and safe thus taking it away from our residential areas for good. Working on root causes of why women are in this line of work takes many years. This is important necessary work; however, the health and safety standards of residential communities should not be affected during this time.
We are still working with the city in regards to the symptomatic issues. We have three emails sent to the mayor requesting a meeting not about how we can live with this, but about how he can fix it for good. He has not responded.
