Hi everyone, After months of meetings and getting the runaround, the city is now ignoring our requests for chartered reports showing why traffic calming and a garbage by law is not possible. These are the only things that the city apparently has jurisdiction over. Upholding the law is not in their jurisdiction no matter how many times we repeated that buying sex is illegal according to bill c 36 We were meeting the city where it is at by discussing "what is in their jurisdiction" We were requesting a garbage by law to make the businesses clean up their properties. As you know corners popular for the sex trade is littered badly with paraphernalia, needles, condoms etc. Also areas where dates take place and where spotters sit and watch are also very dangerous affecting the Health and Safety of the community. This would have given us another line of defence against needles and other dangerous garbage. The city said no. They have not answered our request for increased lighting either. They have put in three additional garbage cans two are still pending. They have put up a brand new write up on their website citing the cities approach to the sex trade. In this brand new write up more focus was put on "mitigating the impacts of the sex trade on communities" Three garbage cans and a lot of saying no doesn't quite give evidence of this. They have funded a community based program run out of cedar cottage called SAFER. This program is gathering community input and will apparently build their approach based on the community wants and voice as to how we would like the sex trade handled.
