Petition to Preserve Personalized Learning Campus (PLC)

The Issue

Keep PLC Unique

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the proposed changes to the Personalized Learning Campus (PLC) that will strip away its distinct identity and disrupt the learning environment for students.

Currently, our school system offers two campuses with different educational models: the Studio Campus, which focuses on accelerated courses, and the Personalized Learning Campus, which provides a project-based, flexible curriculum designed to meet the needs of students. The two campuses are meant to cater to different learning styles, ensuring that all students can thrive in an environment that suits their individual needs.

However, the administration is planning to make PLC more like the Studio Campus, including requiring students to travel between campuses daily to take classes and making certain classes only available at Studio Campus. These changes will hurt students' ability to learn in an environment that works for them, especially as PLC is designed with flexibility and individualized learning in mind.

One specific example of these changes is the Yearbook class. Currently, there are separate yearbooks for each campus, allowing PLC students to receive the recognition they deserve. But under the new plan, there would be one combined Yearbook class, and PLC students would likely see significantly less recognition due to the much smaller size of their campus compared to Studio. This is just one instance of how the proposed changes would undermine the individuality and spirit of PLC.

We believe that the purpose of having two distinct campuses — each tailored to different educational needs — is being undermined, and that these changes prioritize financial savings and convenience over the well-being and educational needs of students.

We urge the administration to reconsider these changes and to preserve the unique, personalized learning environment that makes PLC a vital resource for students. These changes will not only harm the educational experience of PLC students but will also disregard the fundamental reason the two campuses were created in the first place: to accommodate different learning styles.

We ask for your support in preserving the integrity of the Personalized Learning Campus.
