Petition to Preserve Block Grant Funding for COVE-Advised Student Organizations

The Issue

We, the undersigned, urge the Student Government Association to vote against the proposal to eliminate the 8% block grant funding for COVE-advised student organizations.

This proposed change would require every service team to submit individual funding requests for regular activities, removing the efficient and equitable block grant system that currently supports 36 student service organizations.

📊 Why the Block Grant Matters:
Supports 36 service teams with $55,628 total, averaging $1,545 per group. These teams make up 13% of active student orgs, yet receive just 8% of funding.

In 2024, COVE teams mobilized 622 students, worked with 84 community partners, and contributed 17,477 service hours.

🚫 What’s at Risk:
New funding rules would cause delays, add bureaucratic burdens, and limit our ability to plan and serve.

Weekly activities, trainings, and long-term partnerships could be severely disrupted.

✅ What We’re Asking:
Keep the block grant in place for COVE-advised groups. This system ensures:

Reliable funding for meaningful service, Less red tape for student leaders, And continued impact on campus and in the community.
