The Issue

The proposed education legislation announced on Monday, April 13, 2026, regarding student success and achievement does not adequately support members of high school communities across Ontario.

As high school students, we believe this proposal does not reflect our best interests. The introduction of a final exam with a “significant mark attached” fails to recognize the diverse learning styles, needs, and accessibility challenges faced by students across the province. A single high-stakes assessment cannot fully measure a student’s knowledge, growth, or potential.

Additionally, incorporating attendance and participation into final grades is not an accurate or fair measure of individual success. Many students face circumstances beyond their control, such as health issues, family responsibilities, or mental health challenges, that can impact attendance but do not reflect their academic abilities or commitment to learning.

We call for a pause on the implementation of this new education legislation and urge policymakers to engage with students, educators, and communities to develop a more inclusive and equitable approach that truly supports student success.

Please join us in signing this petition if you believe in a fair and inclusive education system that reflects the needs of all students.
