The Issue

We, the residents of North Coventry Township, strongly oppose the proposal to open a commercial  convenience store and gas station at 1395 South Hanover Street. This proposal includes, but is not limited to, rezoning of a residential plot to commercial, a special exemption from well head protection, a variance to exceed existing limits on the size of the convenience store, quantity of fueling islands and reduction in setback distance in order to allow for a 24/7 gas station in the heart of our neighborhood. This is a place where families live, children play, and neighbors expect safety and peace. A large commercial gas station so close to established homes will bring constant traffic, noise from idling vehicles and delivery trucks, and intrusive bright lighting that disrupts sleep and erodes nighttime privacy. These impacts are not minor inconveniences—they pose real risks to residents’ health, mental well-being, and safety, especially for children and pedestrians on already busy roads. In addition, placing a gas station near homes that rely on well water poses serious risks of contamination and long-term environmental harm.

This development threatens to lower nearby property values and deter new families from moving into the area, undermining the strong residential character our community has worked hard to preserve. With multiple gas stations already nearby, this project is unnecessary and places corporate convenience over community well-being. Once built, the environmental, social, and economic damage cannot be undone. We urge township leaders to stand with residents, protect our homes, and reject this rezoning request.

Please attend the meeting on April 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the North Coventry Township Building on 845 South Hanover Street to support and stand with your neighbors in protecting the safety, character, and future of our community.
