Petition to NPUC for equal ordination of women in ministry
The Issue
In recent efforts, a dedicated group aimed to place the issue of ordaining women equally alongside men on the agenda at the North Pacific Union Conference (NPUC) meetings, scheduled for August. Sadly, their proposal was denied, making it glaringly evident that we must amplify our voices to ensure this fundamental matter receives the attention it deserves.
The church plays an integral role in our communities, providing spiritual guidance, support, and a sense of belonging. However, the ongoing gender disparity in ordination sends a message that contradicts the inclusive values many of us hold dear. Women have continuously demonstrated leadership, dedication, and spiritual insight comparable to their male counterparts, yet they remain limited to being commissioned rather than ordained. This stifles the potential growth and diversification of our ministries.
Our request is simple: to ordain women equally with men, acknowledging their right to lead and serve at the highest levels within the church.
We call upon the NPUC leadership to reflect on these values of equality and inclusion, and to address this concern with the urgency it warrants. By signing this petition, you join us in urging the NPUC to place the agenda of equal ordination for women on the table in their upcoming August meetings. Let us collectively support and uplift the women who are vital to the spiritual and communal life we cherish.
Please sign this petition to demand fairness and progress within our spiritual leadership, as we work together to build a future that mirrors the equality we seek in our broader society.
