With the recent change in mascots in Lane Tech, it is time to partake in change. Recently, we are now referred to as the Lane Tech "Champions", which I would argue is pretty nice. However, I have come to the realization that we lack a mascot, a key staple of the high school experience. When you think of a champion, the last thing you probably expect is a goose, but that is the idea I am pitching today: the new Lane Tech mascot, a Canadian goose. 

 

The Canadian goose: these gentle giants have adapted and coexisted with their environment throughout an era of revolutionary change. Similarly, Lane Tech is a school that has been thriving and adapting for well over 100 years, being founded in 1908. This connection exemplifies the fact that we as a Lane Tech community will never die, and we will continue to thrive and adapt throughout an era of extreme change.   

Typically, Canadian geese are immediatelly profiled as being violent and immediately charging at you if any food is spotted. Although this may sometimes be the case, Canadian geese won't typically become violent if you don't attempt to startle or disturb them. However, if you do, Canadian geese will not hesitate to fight right back, which is a quality that we as Lane students encompass. When needed, we will fight against fundamental issues that lie anywhere from our local communities to the world as a whole. So, although there is a major differences between the issues geese and Lane students typically fight, the sublmininal message is still intact about our prepardeness to challenge issues whenever needed. 

In the end, another quality that is deemed present within Canadian geese and Lane students is the pure amount of community and socialness invovled! I can guarantee you have spotted geese in a flock or in a major crowd, especially in our very own Lane Campus. This quality represents the social nature of the Canadian goose, which is also a staple of Lane Tech. Our school doesn't just exceed in academics, but it also exceeds in crafting a wonderful school environment, which some would argue is even more important! As a result, we can think of ourselves as geese who stick together and fly in a V formation.

So, in the end, we may not think of the Canadian goose as anything close to what we expected ourselves to be, but these major qualities of geese simply align with what we intend as champions of Lane Tech. So, all I ask for you to do is to sign this petition (OBVIOUSLY IF YOU WANT TO!!!), or even just share (and maybe sign it too)! Thank you for your time, and the next time you see a goose, think about the several similarities!
