We are asking the school board to reconsider the decision to close Mount Hermon High School in Mount Hermon, Louisiana.

The school board has stated that the proposed closure is intended to give students more opportunities. We understand and support the goal of providing students with the best possible education and opportunities for their future. However, we believe those opportunities should not come at the cost of closing a school that means so much to our students, families, alumni, teachers, and community.

Mount Hermon High School is more than a school. It is part of the identity and history of our community. It provides students with a familiar environment where they are known, supported, and connected to their teachers and classmates.

We ask the school board to consider every possible alternative to closing Mount Hermon High School and to work with students, parents, teachers, alumni, and community members to find ways to expand opportunities while keeping our school open.

Our students deserve opportunities—but they also deserve to have a voice in where they receive their education and what happens to the school that has served their community.
