Petition to Keep KAA Open
We, the undersigned, are petitioning the school board to reverse its decision to close King Abdullah Academy after this school year, a beloved, highly respected institution with a profound and positive impact. The closure would profoundly impact the students, families, and community. We believe that KAA is integral to its students' educational and social development and contributes positively and significantly to the local and global community, particulary given its location and the quality of teachers and students. We remain committed to aiding and facilitating its ability to remain open.
Reasons for Keeping KAA Open:
Impact on Students' Education:
Closing KAA would drastically impact the education of over a thousand students, having them move to schools that may not offer some of the same amenities or the same level of personalized attention, specialized programs, or nurturing environment that KAA offers. Many students at KAA thrive due to its strengths, including small class sizes, individualized support, sports, after-school clubs, and more. The closure of this school would compromise their academic and personal growth. A beautiful community has been formed because of the wonderful resources the school board has provided over the past many decades.
Serving the Global Community:
KAA has consistently provided a foundational, high-quality education that prepares students for local success and leadership on the global stage. KAA graduates continue to serve communities around the world, drawing on the values and skills instilled by their education here. Closing KAA would prevent future generations from receiving the same opportunities to become informed, compassionate global citizens and leaders. At this critical moment in history, it’s more important than ever for KAA to remain open, especially given its strategic global location. Both students and alumni have the potential to make a significant impact in the world and continue to do great things.
A Unique Educational and Cultural Choice:
KAA offers an exceptional blend of academic excellence and cultural enrichment, which is rare in our district. For many families, it is the only option that allows their children to receive a high-quality education while remaining deeply connected to their cultural heritage. This unique combination fosters pride, belonging, and a sense of community—foundations essential to developing well-rounded, thoughtful individuals.
Historical Significance:
KAA has a long history of serving the community, and its closure would be a loss to the identity of the area. For many students and alumni, this school represents a sense of pride and achievement.
Public Sentiment:
There is overwhelming support for keeping KAA open, as evidenced by the hundreds of families and community members who support this cause. Closing the school would not be the desire of those who rely on it most. KAA has reached a point where the systems are functioning and functioning well. The teachers are exceptional, the student body is wonderful, and the administration is both organized and efficient. Choosing to close after this school year would impact a well-established and smoothly running school. It could set a concerning precedent for other schools that are striving to create a safe and inclusive environment for international, diverse, and multicultural students. These schools work hard to build a community where all children can learn in a secure and welcoming space, and closing a school that has served as a model in this space might make that mission more challenging for larger communities. By remaining open, KAA has and can continue to serve as a model for other schools with similar goals and objectives.
Call to Action:
We urge the KAA school board to reconsider this decision and consider the long-term effects on students, families, and the community. We believe there are alternatives to closure that can address financial concerns without sacrificing the quality of education or the future of the children in our community. We remain committed to working with the school board to find avenues to prevent the school from shutting down. We urge the school board to reconsider its decision so that it can remain open for the following school year and that alternatives may be explored to keep the school open.
Please join us in calling for a solution that keeps KAA open. This would ensure that every student can access quality education in a safe, supportive, and familiar environment.
PLEASE NOTE: after you sign it will ask you if you want to contribute $11. please know this does not come to us, it goes to change.org.
