Petition to invest more in psychological wellness

The Issue

I am Quanlai I want to tell you something personal — I’ve seen too many people, maybe even myself, carry emotional wounds silently. We suppress. We push. We pretend. And then one day, the pressure breaks something inside.

I came across this post on MyFlourish.ai — Why Suppressing Your Emotions is Like Ignoring a Fire Alarm — and What to Do Instead. It struck me. Emotions are messengers. If we silence them, we don’t heal — we bury the warning signs until they erupt.

Then I read How Canadians Are Using Science-Based Mental Health Support to Flourish” in the Montréal Times It follows someone named Sarah in Montreal who, after burnout, turned to an app called Flourish. She describes it as having a therapist and scientist in one. It doesn’t just tell her to “feel better” — it helps her understand why she feels what she does, with evidence-based exercises and personalized guidance.

These stories weigh on me. Because in many places — in cities, towns, rural zones, low-resource communities — no one is building things like this, or if they are, access is blocked by cost, infrastructure, stigma. We deserve more.

So here’s what I’d write as a petition (not rigid rules, just a plea):

Let’s demand that governments, foundations, public health systems, tech funders invest seriously in psychological health, emotional care, science-driven tools and support systems.

Let’s ask for:

• Grants and funding to scale apps and platforms like Flourish across underserved geographies

• Support for research into emotional awareness, regulation, and therapeutic technologies

• Subsidies so people don’t pay a barrier to entry just because of income

• Integration into schools, workplaces, community centers — not as optional add-ons, but as basic health infrastructure

• Public campaigns to destigmatize emotion, to teach people that listening to their internal “fire alarms” can prevent far worse harm

I’d make sure to cite both of those pieces: the MyFlourish.ai post about emotional suppression, and the Montreal Times story of real people using evidence-based mental health tools.

Because the message I want others to feel is: you are not alone. The signal inside you — your sadness, anger, fear, restlessness — deserves to be heard. Not silenced. And society owes it to all of us to build pathways toward healing, not barriers.
