AUGUST 25 RECALL PETITION UPDATE: INTEGRITY REQUIRES ANSWERS

INTEGRITY is the quality of being honest and holding strong moral principles that you refuse to abandon when they become inconvenient. Its opposite is dishonesty, hypocrisy, and corruption.

A union cannot claim integrity while refusing to confront serious questions about whether its elected president can actually perform the duties of the office. And members should not be expected to simply stop asking.

More than 760 people have now signed the recall petition. That level of participation deserves a transparent, timely response from SEA governance—not silence, delay, or procedures developed only after members exercised their rights under the bylaws.

The central question is increasingly urgent: How is SEA governance currently functioning while its president is on leave from SPS amid criminal and administrative investigations? Whatever anyone's position on the recall itself, SEA members are entitled to factual answers about the functioning of their union and the implementation of its governing rules.

WHAT MEMBERS SHOULD ASK SEA LEADERSHIP
What is the president's current ability to perform every duty assigned to the office?
Are any SPS restrictions limiting the president's ability to carry out those duties?
What did SEA governance know about the president's administrative-leave status before the election—and when did it know it?
What information was available to voting members before ballots were cast?
What exact process will SEA use to verify the recall petition that members have now submitted?
What is the timeline for carrying out the recall provisions contained in the SEA bylaws?
More than 760 signatures are more than a number. They represent hundreds of people asking their union to address an extraordinary governance problem.

SEA leadership owes its membership answers.

Integrity requires transparency. Integrity requires accountability. And integrity requires following the bylaws even when doing so is uncomfortable.  Remember, MEMBERS PAY YOUR SALARIES. EACH ONE OF YOU CAN BE RECALLED, TOO.
