PETITION TO INCREASE MADISON COUNTY SUPERVISORS AND REDISTRICT THE COUNTY
We, the undersigned residents of Madison County, Iowa, respectfully request the Madison County Board of Supervisors to take action to increase the number of supervisors from three (3) to five (5) and to implement a redistricting plan that ensures fair and equitable representation for all residents.
Reasons for Change:
Enhanced Representation: Increasing the number of supervisors will allow for more diverse perspectives and better representation of the county's population.
Improved Governance: A larger board can distribute responsibilities more effectively, leading to improved decision-making and oversight.
Equitable Districting: Redistricting the county will ensure that each supervisor represents a district with balanced population sizes, promoting fairness and equality.
Request for Action:
We urge the Madison County Board of Supervisors to:
Initiate the process to expand the board from three (3) to five (5) members.
Develop and implement a redistricting plan that aligns with Iowa Code and ensures balanced representation across all districts.
Designate the role of county supervisors as a part-time position, requiring a minimum of two (2) workdays per week, with one (1) workday being Saturday every four (4) weeks and attendance on every meeting day.
Eliminate the provision of county health benefits for these part-time roles, aligning with the role's adjusted responsibilities.
By signing this petition, we express our support for this change and call upon the Board of Supervisors to prioritize the needs and voices of Madison County residents.
