Petition to Include the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Community in RV Park Regulations

The Issue

Pointe-au-Chien needs your help.

This petition asks Terrebonne Parish to give the Pointe-au-Chien community the same stronger protections from unregulated RV park development that are being considered for other parts of the parish.

This is not anti-business or anti-growth. We are not asking Terrebonne Parish to prohibit all development. We are asking that RV park development in the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Community be held to reasonable standards that protect our roads, drainage, families, culture, and way of life.

The Pointe-au-Chien Indian Community has a distinct identity, history, and way of life that should be protected in local land-use decisions. Large or poorly regulated RV parks could increase traffic, create drainage and sewage concerns, strain local infrastructure, change the residential character of the area, and place additional pressure on an already vulnerable coastal community.

This request would apply to:

“All Terrebonne Parish addresses on Highway 665 beginning at 2846 Highway 665 and continuing southward to the Morganza levee/protection system, including all addresses on the Terrebonne Parish side of the road within that area.”

Pointe-au-Chien is not merely a roadway or rural neighborhood. It is the historic home of the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe and remains a living Indigenous community with deep cultural, family, and historical ties to the land.

Please sign and share. Every signature helps show the Parish Council that Pointe-au-Chien deserves to be heard and protected.

I have no problem including Point Au Chene as equal to the rest of Parish. I feel this will come up again in the future. I have received the petition and the language ensuring the new regulations will apply to Pointe-au-Chien community is in the current version of the ordinance to be brought back in from the council.
