To: Penndot and Wellsville Borough

From: Concerned Residents and Community Members of the Fairmont Ave/York St Area

We, the undersigned, are urgently requesting safety improvements at the intersection of Fairmont Avenue and York Street, an area that has become increasingly hazardous for drivers, pedestrians, children, and school bus riders.

This location poses serious risks due to poor visibility over the hill, which prevents drivers from seeing oncoming vehicles until it is too late. Compounding this danger, vehicles frequently speed over the hill, leaving little to no reaction time for those entering or crossing the intersection.

Residents have repeatedly witnessed tractor trailers and other vehicles flying up and over the hill, as well as speeding downhill, creating near-miss situations—especially when cars are stopped for school buses or just trying to pull out of Fairmont Ave.These conditions make everyday travel dangerous and put families, children, and workers at unacceptable risk.

We believe that immediate action is necessary. We respectfully ask that the appropriate authorities:

Conduct a full safety assessment of the Fairmont Ave/York St intersection

Consider installing speed-calming measures such as flashing lights, speed bumps, or signage

Improve visibility or sightlines over the hill

Add warning signs for drivers approaching school bus stops and the intersection

Explore additional traffic control options to reduce speeding and prevent collisions

This intersection has been dangerous for far too long, and delays in addressing it only increase the likelihood of a serious or fatal accident.

By signing this petition, we urge local officials and the transportation department to prioritize and implement critical safety improvements immediately.

Community safety must come first.
