This petition was created out of deep concern for the repeated inaction, perceived negligence, and lack of transparency demonstrated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office under the leadership of Sheriff Brian Graley. As citizens, we have the constitutional right to petition our courts and elected officials when we believe public trust has been compromised. Numerous community members have voiced frustration over how serious matters involving public safety, alleged abuse, and citizen complaints have been handled. While Sheriff Graley may dispute these concerns, the growing volume of testimonies and documentation provided by members of the community indicate a potential pattern of conduct that warrants judicial review. This petition seeks only a fair and legal process under West Virginia Code § 6-6-7 to determine whether removal from office is appropriate. It is based on the belief that elected officials must be held accountable to the people they serve — and that justice, transparency, and public service must always come before personal power or political protection.
