Petition to Honor Lucky Wong by Renaming Grim Avenue in North Park "Lucky Lane"

The Issue

For nearly 50 years, Lucky Wong and the Golden Phenix stood at the heart of North Park, welcoming generations of neighbors, visitors, and friends with warmth, generosity, and a home-cooked meal. Lucky wasn’t just a restaurateur, he was an icon, a pillar of the community who turned a simple breakfast into an experience of true hospitality.

If you knew Lucky, you knew he was classic. He lived and breathed this neighborhood, greeting customers like family, remembering their orders by heart, and making everyone feel at home. His kindness and dedication left an undeniable mark on North Park, and now, we have an opportunity to ensure his legacy is permanently recognized.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request the 3800 block of Grim Avenue (between University Ave and North Park Way) be renamed in his honor as "Lucky Lane." This is the corner where Lucky devoted his life to serving this community, and we believe there is no better way to preserve his memory than to name it after him.

Lucky’s contributions to North Park were profound, and worthy of using one of the two honorary street renamings Councilmember Whitburn is granted per council term. We believe Lucky Wong’s impact is more than deserving of this recognition.

By signing this petition, you join us in urging the City Council to honor a man who made North Park a better, kinder, and more welcoming place.
