Petition to Hold Teacher Accountable for Unprofessional Behaviour Towards Students
The Issue
Subject: Letter of Complaint
We are writing to express our deep concern regarding the misappropriation of treatment by Cikgu Salim Abdullah and also incidents of his abuse towards our child that has repeatedly occur in Classroom 5R. As a parent / legal guardian, I entrust the education and well-being of our child to the school and it is unacceptable for any teacher to mistreat their students.
The following are the list of incidents that has happened with our child at the school where our child has been subjected to physical & verbal abuse, insult and inappropriate comments by Cikgu Salim.
1) On several occasions, the mentioned teacher has aggressively hit and pinch our kids arm repeatedly while talking to them.
2) The mentioned teacher has also used his finger to keep pointing to, and pushing our child’s forehead while talking to them, which is a form of physical abuse & child harassment.
3) The mentioned teacher has ‘slapped’ one of the student’s face in front of all the child in the classroom.
4) Cikgu Salim has also yelled at our child and her classmates using derogatory language such as “Stupid” or “Bodoh” in which “Bodoh” has the similar meaning as stupid but in Malay language.
5) Students were punished to write an essay *50 times* for an unreasonable circumstances, as our child were unable to complete their essay homework with limited guidance from Cikgu Salim. This has negatively affected my child's mental health and caused great distress.
6) Cikgu Salim has also warned and threatened our child that he is not afraid of any complaint from parents.
We are extremely concerned about the safety and well-being of our child. The above behavior has had significant impact on my child self-esteem, academic performance and overall well-being. It is not only unacceptable but also completely unprofessional for a teacher to behave in this manner towards any student. I believe that every child deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.
Thus, we request for the following actions to be taken to address the above issues and to ensure that our child is no longer subjected to the abusive behavior of Cikgu Salim.
An investigation to be carried out into the conduct of Cikgu Salim and appropriate action to be taken as a result of the investigation, with evidence of investigation and written outcome to be shared to the all the impacted students & parents.
The School Principal and Cikgu Salim to provide verbal and written assurance that the similar incident will not happened again in the future.
Cikgu Salim to provide a formal apology to my child and all the affected students. An apology is a crucial step in the healing process and vital acknowledgement of wrongdoing that helps to repair the trust and confidence of the students that has been damaged by the incident.
Replacement of Cikgu Salim with another teacher and warning letter to be issued as this type of behaviour should not be encouraged and tolerated by the school.
We expect a response from the school administration regarding the steps taken to address the above by Thursday 20 Apr 2023, failing which we proceed to escalate this matter to Jabatan Pendidikan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
Thank you and we seek your prompt attention to this matter.
