The Kentucky School for the Deaf has a rich tradition in educating Kentucky’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children for over 200 years.  The school has been without a superintendent responsible for the day-to-day administration of KSD since 2001.  Currently the highest level of leadership that serves on campus is the Principal who is responsible for preschool through high school education, student life (dorm), extra curricular activities, and the maintenance of the school.  The role of superintendent currently falls to the Kentucky Commissioner of Education, and its governing board is the Kentucky Board of Education.

We want a full time presence of a Superintendent at KSD to better serve the students, school, parents, and Deaf Education throughout Kentucky since KSD is also designated as the State Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.  We want the salary for a Superintendent to be a line item in the budget and not be a part of KDE’s budget for KSD so services are not cut.
