We, the undersigned residents of Key Towers in Alexandria, VA, urgently request that Gates Hudson Property Management take immediate and comprehensive action to address the critical safety, management, and maintenance issues plaguing our community. Our concerns are listed below, detailing the numerous instances and ongoing problems that have significantly impacted our quality of life and safety:

1. Safety Issues:

  • Vehicle Vandalism and Theft: Multiple instances of tires being stolen from vehicles, car exteriors being scratched with sharp objects, vehicles being broken into, and personal belongings being stolen.
  • Loitering and Unauthorized Soliciting: Non-residents loitering and soliciting in parking lots create an unsafe environment.
  • Lack of Security: Absence of security cameras and personnel to deter criminal activities.
  • Unauthorized Parking: Non-resident vehicles occupying resident parking spaces, leading to parking shortages, especially at night.
  • Homeless Individuals in Stairwells: Homeless individuals found sleeping in stairwells, compromising residents' safety.
  • Dangerous Items Found: Discovery of a machete on the lobby hall couch, posing a severe risk to residents.
  • Threatening Encounters: Residents being stopped in their vehicles by unidentified individuals with malicious intentions.
  • Package Theft: Numerous reports of stolen packages, leading to financial loss and inconvenience for residents.

2. Management & Maintenance Issues:

  • Elevator Malfunctions: Elevator Malfunctions: For several weeks, one elevator stops at each floor from the 8th floor to the 16th floor, and the other elevator stops on each floor from the base level to the 8th floor. Residents have been stuck in elevators for more than 30 minutes, causing distress and potential health risks. 
    Inadequate Response to Concerns: Lack of timely and effective responses from the management team regarding these pressing issues.
  • Poor Communication: Insufficient communication regarding the steps to address residents' concerns.
  • HVAC System Failures: Widespread reports of air conditioning units not functioning properly during summer heatwaves, causing discomfort and health concerns for residents.
  • Structural Issues: Closet doors falling off hinges, plumbing problems such as leaks and insufficient water pressure, and electrical issues including power outages are persistent problems in many apartments.
  • Poor Ventilation: Inadequate ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens, leading to mold growth and air quality issues.

  • Hire Security Personnel: Employ trained security personnel to monitor the premises and deter criminal activities.
  • Enforce Parking Regulations: Implement strict measures to ensure that only residents and guests can access and use the parking facilities.
  • Improve Maintenance Services: Ensure that all elevators, apartments, and shared facilities are regularly inspected and maintained to prevent malfunctions.
  • Enhance Communication: Establish a clear and effective communication channel for residents to report issues and receive timely updates on the actions being taken.
