Lunar New Year is a prominent holiday celebrated by billions of East and Southeast asians every year. While many other students celebrate Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving, as a Chinese student, I only celebrate Lunar New Year. To me, and many others, Lunar New Year is one of the only days that my family can come together, rest, and celebrate our culture. This holiday symbolizes new beginnings, good luck, and prosperity for the future. 

I believe that Lunar New Year deserves the same recognition as Thanksgiving and other already established holidays.

Acknowledging Lunar New Year as a holiday would be a tremendous step towards making Hamden Public Schools a diverse and inclusive community for all.
