Petition to Establish a Residential Parking Permit (RPP) Zone for Our Community
Le problème
As long-term residents of this apartment community, we are writing to urgently request the implementation of a Residential Street Parking Permit program for our neighborhood. The influx of traffic during Levi's Stadium events has severely compromised our ability to park near our homes. Because our community relies heavily on street parking, the current event-day parking enforcement disproportionately harms residents, resulting in unfair ticketing.
We are calling on the city to implement a permit system that exempts local residents from event parking penalties, reserves street spots for community members, and deters stadium attendees from monopolizing our streets.
The Problem
Our neighborhood, which we deeply cherish, deserves practical protection for our vehicles and our daily routines. Because we live in an apartment community, street parking is not a luxury for us—it is a daily necessity. A recent survey highlighted that over 60% of our residents have experienced severe parking issues, including a complete lack of available spots and unfair ticketing during stadium events.
The current system is financially damaging and deeply frustrating. Many of us feel anxious about leaving or returning home on event days, knowing there will be nowhere to park and that parking enforcement will strictly penalize cars on our streets while outsiders fill up our neighborhood.
Our Proposed Solution
It’s time that we stand together as a community to demand a simple, fair, and effective solution: a Resident Street Parking Permit system using physical windshield permits—provided completely free of charge to residents.
As tax-paying members of this community who live here year-round, residents should not have to pay extra fees just to park at their own homes due to event disruption. By granting residents free official permits to hang or display on their windshields, parking enforcement officers can instantly identify authorized local vehicles. This simple change will reserve street parking specifically for the people who live here, making it clear that our neighborhood streets are not an overflow lot for Levi's Stadium.
We are demanding the following actions from our local government:
- Issue Free Physical Windshield Permits: Provide hanging windshield permits (or decals) to verified apartment residents at zero cost, ensuring residents aren't financially burdened by event-day logistics.
- Reserve Street Parking for Residents: Designate neighborhood street spots exclusively for permit holders, preventing event attendees from taking up local parking.
- Event-Day Enforcement Against Non-Residents: Direct parking enforcement to strictly ticket and tow non-permitted vehicles (stadium attendees) during event days, while fully exempting vehicles displaying a valid resident windshield permit.
- Establishing a free permit program will solve the issues we face, keep local parking available for residents, and ensure we are no longer unfairly penalized in our own neighborhood.
We urge our local government and community leaders to prioritize this initiative immediately. In union, our voices can lead to real change.
