For the Preservation of West Valley City’s History

We, the undersigned residents, community members, and supporters of West Valley City, respectfully petition the City of West Valley to ensure that the historic Lighthouse Church -Jordan North Stake (formerly the North Jordan Stake Tabernacle) is preserved as a public heritage site, and that the West Valley City Historical Society be granted space within the building to establish a permanent museum.

This building stands as a lasting symbol of unity, sacrifice, and community involvement, having served thousands of local residents for generations. It holds architectural, cultural, and spiritual significance, and represents one of the city's last remaining historical landmarks from the post-war era.

As the second largest city in Utah, West Valley City is one of the few large cities in the state that does not yet have a permanent museum dedicated to preserving and sharing its rich local history. This is a vital opportunity to change that.

As West Valley City considers the purchase and future use of this important building, we ask that the following be formally included in the plan:

Designation of the Lighthouse Church as a local historical landmark
Allocation of dedicated space within the building for a community-run museum, overseen by the West Valley City Historical Society
Preservation of the building’s historical features and use for cultural, educational, and civic engagement purposes
A museum housed in the Lighthouse Church would serve as a hub for preserving and sharing the history of Granger, Hunter, Redwood, Chesterfield, and the surrounding areas that now make up West Valley City. It would provide educational opportunities, support community unity, and honor the sacrifices of those who built and served in this beloved building.

We urge you to take meaningful steps to preserve our shared past and support a future where our history is accessible to all.
