Petition to End Warehouses in Perris

Petition to End Warehouses in Perris
The Issue
The City Council of Perris, California
We the undersigned residents of Perris, California, are writing to express our concerns regarding the increase in warehouse developments within our city. We believe that the continued proliferation of warehouses poses several threats to our community's well-being, environment, and overall quality of life.
Reasons for Our Petition:
1. Traffic Congestion: The influx of warehouses has led to increased truck traffic, resulting in significant congestion on our roads. This congestion not only affects daily commutes but also endangers the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
2. Air Quality: The emissions from heavy-duty trucks and industrial facilities contribute to poor air quality in our city. Increased pollution can lead to respiratory issues and other health problems for residents, particularly vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
3. Environmental Impact: Warehouses often require significant land use, leading to the destruction of local ecosystems, green spaces, and wildlife habitats. This environmental degradation undermines our commitment to sustainability and protecting natural resources.
4. Quality of Life: The noise, light, and general disruption associated with warehousing operations diminish our community's quality of life. Residents deserve a peaceful and enjoyable living environment, free from the disturbances caused by industrial operations.
5. Job Quality: While warehouses may provide some jobs, many are low-wage and lack benefits. We believe that our community deserves better job opportunities that support long-term economic stability and growth.
6. Existing Vacant Warehouses: There are already over 10 existing warehouses that have been vacant for more than 2 years. That should be enough to acknowledge that were don’t need any more new warehouses.
Our Demands:
We respectfully ask the City Council to take the following actions:
- Implement a Moratorium: Place a temporary halt on the approval of new warehouse developments until a comprehensive study of their impacts is conducted.
- Conduct a Community Impact Assessment: Carry out a thorough assessment that evaluates potential traffic, environmental, and social impacts of existing and proposed warehouses.
- Develop a Sustainable Plan: Create a long-term vision for Perris that prioritizes residential development, green spaces, and businesses that enhance the community rather than detract from it.
Conclusion: We believe that Perris has the potential to be a vibrant community that prioritizes the well-being and happiness of its residents. By limiting warehouse expansion and focusing on sustainable development, we can create a healthier and more prosperous future for all.
