The issue

To: The Developer, Body Corporate/Strata Council, and Relevant Decision-Makers, Energy Minister

We, the undersigned residents and property owners of Eglinton Village are calling for the immediate termination of the exclusive electricity supply agreement with Eglinton Village Energy/Zenith and for residents to be given the freedom to choose their own electricity retailer.

When purchasing our homes, many residents were led to believe that this electricity arrangement would provide fair pricing, quality customer service, and benefits that would outweigh the loss of consumer choice. Unfortunately, this has not been our experience.

Instead, many residents have experienced ongoing issues that have caused financial hardship, frustration, and a complete loss of confidence in the provider.

These concerns include:

  • Electricity bills that are significantly higher than expected, with some households reporting charges many times greater than what they paid before moving into the estate.

  • Serious concerns regarding the accuracy and reliability of electricity meter readings, with many residents believing the recorded usage does not reflect their actual consumption.

  • Payments being lost, incorrectly allocated, or not properly recorded, leaving customers to prove payments have been made and, in some cases, being asked to pay the same amount twice.

  • Fees and charges that residents believe are inconsistent with the promises and information provided when purchasing their homes and entering into this arrangement.

  • No access to concession pricing or rebates that many vulnerable households would normally receive through other electricity retailers.

  • Excessive delays in approving or connecting solar systems, preventing residents from reducing their electricity costs and making environmentally responsible choices.

  • Poor customer service, slow complaint resolution, and a lack of accountability when residents attempt to resolve issues.

  • No ability to change electricity providers, leaving residents locked into a monopoly regardless of service quality or pricing.

Electricity is an essential service. Residents should not be forced to remain with a provider when there are ongoing concerns about billing accuracy, customer service, pricing, and contractual commitments.

We are requesting that the Developer, Body Corporate, and all relevant authorities:

  1. Immediately review the exclusive electricity agreement.

  2. Investigate all complaints relating to inaccurate billing, payment handling, fees, and customer service.

  3. Ensure all eligible residents have access to concession rates and rebates.

  4. Remove the exclusive provider arrangement and allow residents to choose their own electricity retailer.

  5. Consult with residents before making any future decisions affecting electricity services within the estate.

This petition is not about seeking special treatment. It is about fairness, transparency, consumer choice, and ensuring that every resident has access to an electricity provider they can trust.

We ask that our concerns be taken seriously and that immediate action be taken to end this exclusive arrangement and restore residents' right to choose their electricity provider.

By signing this petition, you are standing with your neighbours to demand fair pricing, accurate billing, accountability, and consumer choice.
