The Issue

IN MEMORY OF GABRIEL DANIEL FERNANDEZ

I, the undersigned, respectfully urge the court to deny any request for resentencing submitted by Pearl Sinthia Fernandez, who pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of her 8-year-old son, Gabriel Daniel Fernandez.

Gabriel was a kind, gentle, and loving child whose life was tragically cut short after enduring months of severe abuse and torture. He was starved, beaten, and forced to sleep bound in a small cabinet. The horrific nature of Gabriel’s death sent shockwaves across the nation and led to widespread calls for reform and accountability in cases of child abuse.

In 2018, Pearl Fernandez was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for her role in Gabriel’s murder. This sentence reflected the gravity of the crime and the profound betrayal of maternal responsibility.

Today, I speak out not from a place of vengeance, but from a commitment to justice. Gabriel’s short life mattered. He suffered immensely at the hands of those meant to protect him. To reconsider or reduce the sentence imposed for this crime would undermine the severity of what Gabriel endured and the justice that was rightly delivered.

I stand united in honoring Gabriel’s memory and protecting the integrity of justice for victims of child abuse. I ask that the original sentence remain in place.
