The Issue

Petition to Demand Equal Transportation Services and Fair Conditions for Bus Drivers.

We, the undersigned parents, and community members, strongly oppose the district’s recent decision to limit transportation services for private and parochial school students only to the days when the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are in session, starting in the 2025–2026 school year.

This decision is:

🚫 Unjust
🚫 Disruptive
🚫 Harmful to students and families who depend on daily transportation.

We believe every student whether attending a public, private, or parochial school deserves equal access to district provided busing, especially since all families pay into the district through taxes.

The Impact:

  • Scholarship students may lose their placements due to attendance issues.
  • Families face increased stress around missed school days.
  • Academic performance and emotional well being will suffer.

Our Bus Drivers Are Also Suffering:

  • No formal employment contracts
  • Lack of salary stability
  • Unsafe, poorly maintained buses.
  • No heat in winter, no A/C in summer
  • Unfair pay cuts from a 10 month schedule to 8.5 months
  • Severe overcrowding on buses students sitting in aisles, a major safety violation

We Are Calling on the Tarrytown School District to:

  • Reverse the new transportation policy
  • Reinstate busing based on each school's individual calendar not just the public school schedule.
  • Guarantee equal busing services for all students
  • Support all students fairly, regardless of their school type.
  • Protect students on scholarships
  • Ensure no student loses access to education due to transportation changes.
  • Provide formal contracts for all bus drivers.Guarantee fair wages, benefits, job security, and respect.
  • Restore the 10-month pay structure for bus drivers
  • Honor the previous agreement and compensate drivers accordingly.
  • Make buses safe, climate controlled, and never overcrowded.
  • Fix heating and air conditioning
  • Address the driver shortage to eliminate overcrowding and unsafe seating.

We urge you to act now. This is not a radical request it's a reasonable, just, and necessary demand for equality, safety, and dignity.
