We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and daily commuters of Unicoi County, Tennessee, respectfully submit this petition requesting a modification to the traffic pattern at the intersection of Highway 107 and Unicoi Drive as part of TDOT Project CNZ 903.

Background

The Highway 107 and Unicoi Drive intersection is a critical access point for local residents, emergency services, schools, and businesses. Since the implementation and/or proposed design changes under Project CNZ 903, community members have experienced ongoing concerns related to traffic flow, safety, and accessibility at this intersection.

Concerns

We are particularly concerned about the following issues:

• Increased traffic congestion during peak travel hours.
• Difficulty and delays when turning onto or crossing Highway 107.
• Safety risks for motorists, pedestrians, and emergency responders.
• Confusion caused by the current traffic pattern or signal configuration.
• Negative impacts on nearby homes and businesses

These conditions have created daily challenges for those who rely on this intersection and raise serious concerns about long-term safety and efficiency.

Request

We respectfully request that TDOT and the appropriate authorities:

1. Re-evaluate the current traffic pattern and design at the Highway 107 / Unicoi Drive intersection under Project CNZ 903. 
2. Consider alternative traffic configurations, such as revised signal timing, giving both lanes back instead of one lane, signage, continuous one way traffic around triangle, or access modifications that improve safety and traffic flow.
3. Engage with the local community by allowing public input, feedback, or a formal review before finalizing or continuing with the current design.
4. Prioritize public safety, accessibility, and traffic efficiency in any revised plan.

Conclusion

We appreciate the efforts made to improve transportation infrastructure in Unicoi County. However, we firmly believe that adjustments to the traffic pattern at this intersection are necessary to better serve the community and ensure safe, efficient travel for all users.
