Stray Dog Shot Dead at Kazi Road: Case Registered
In an unimaginably tragic and horrific turn of events, a beloved white stray dog aged between 3-4 years was shot and killed by an unknown person at Kazi Road, Gangtok on July 19, 2024. This senseless act of violence has left our community heartbroken and in shock.
Upon being informed by a concerned resident, a dedicated member of People For Animals, Sikkim, an NGO guided under the compassionate chairmanship of Ms. Maneka Gandhi, sought answers. However, to their dismay, none of the residents or locals were willing to speak about the case.
As messages and information were shared within the group chat, it was discovered that the dog had been hastily buried nearby. Initially, the cause of death was uncertain, but an anonymous person bravely revealed that the dog had been shot, though they could not name the perpetrator. To confirm the cause of death, a case was registered at Sadar Thana, leading to the exhumation of the dog's body and its subsequent examination at the polyclinic. The following day, medical evidence confirmed the heartbreaking truth: the dog had been shot in the chest. Disturbingly, the anonymous source indicated this was not the first time a stray dog had been shot in the same area.
It should be noted that it was Mrs. Rebina Rai a devoted member of People For Animals, Sikkim, who registered the case on July 19th and Animal activist Mr. Sagar Singh brought this grievous case to light through the media. After the post-mortem, she tenderly took the body of the killed animal and buried it at her residence in Assam Lingzey. The members of PFA, alongside the grief-stricken community, strongly condemn this heinous act. They have been tirelessly working with police personnel and authorities to bring justice for the innocent dog that was mercilessly murdered. Mrs. Maneka Gandhi has been apprised of the incident and has been in direct contact with SP Gangtok, Mr. Tenzing Loden Lepcha, who has assured that the investigation will be thorough and relentless in finding the perpetrator.
Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) has always been dedicated to addressing the needs of the grassroots level public and has consistently delivered justice. We hope that CM Sir will introduce laws to protect stray animals, making Sikkim a shining example to the world of compassion and care. This is a heartfelt plea from all animal lovers who stand up for those animals that have no one else in this whole wide world.
This tragic incident should serve as a profound wake-up call for us all. It is a poignant reminder that while advocating for animal rights is crucial, it is even more essential to understand that no one has the right to hurt or kill an innocent creature. The dog is gone, leaving a void that words cannot fill, but this should strengthen our resolve to ensure that such an atrocity never happens again. We, as citizens of a compassionate state and nation, must embrace a sense of responsibility and accountability, firmly believing that all lives matter, especially those of defenseless animals.
