Students at Riverdale Ridge High School deserve formal recognition for outstanding academic achievement through the implementation of Latin honors distinctions. The lack of academic recognition is harming student's college and scholarship prospects. 

We, the undersigned students, parents, alumni, and community members, respectfully request that Riverdale Ridge High School implement Latin honors distinctions — Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude — for graduating students.

These honors would:

• Recognize superior academic achievement
• Motivate students to strive for excellence
• Strengthen college and scholarship applications-Common App has a specific Honors Section
• Promote a stronger academic culture at our school
• Create a tradition of excellence

These honors are widely recognized academic distinctions used by high schools and universities across the country to acknowledge exceptional academic achievement. Introducing this system at our school would provide meaningful recognition for students who demonstrate dedication, perseverance, and excellence throughout their academic careers. These honors allow students to feel proud of the work they have put into their education.

Proposed Honor Criteria

We respectfully suggest that the school consider implementing distinctions such as:

• Summa Cum Laude — Highest academic honors (example: GPA of 4.2+ weighted or top 5%)
• Magna Cum Laude — High academic honors (example GPA of 3.9 - 4.19)
• Cum Laude — Academic honors (example GPA of 3.7 - 3.89)

*GPA Parameters are just examples, administration has the final decision*

All students must be eligible for graduation, abide by Riverdale Ridge High School's Code of Conduct- no suspensions, and maintain academic integrity.
