Petition To Bring Back Lockers

The Issue

Lockers are very important in a student's life, from Scoliosis, to common sense. In these paragraphs, you will find out why lockers can be very useful.

Paragraph 1: Logic And Common Sense

It is obvious that children should have lockers to use, and taking them away from kids was certainly the wrong thing to do.  Back in 6th grade (2022-2023), students had lockers, making their backpacks much lighter and much easier to carry. Also, the lockers (obviously) had locks on them, preventing anyone from stealing anything. Currently, there are over 800 lockers being unused, and to this day, are still there holding up space, which clearly makes no sense.

Paragraph 2: Evidence And Reasons

According to kidshealth.org, holding a backpack could cause neck, back, and shoulder pain, and could also cause you to develop a bent spine and poor posture as well as potentially developing Scoliosis. Also, according to uihc.org, lifting a heavy backpack will cause a person to naturally bend forward to compensate for the extra weight, making it easier to fall, which is especially dangerous in crowded hallways. Lastly, there is even a term associated with pain from carrying a heavy backpack, and it's called "Backpack Syndrome". This term refers to all of the physical issues that heavy backpacks can cause.

Paragraph 3: A Student's Say

Almost every student wants the lockers back, so let's protest against this unfair ruling, and work to get our lockers back. If the administrators were to carry almost 20 pounds every day, and walk to and from 7 classes every single school day, they would certainly bring back the lockers. Lockers are vital in a student's life, essentially holding their belongings for them, and storing anything that they will need for school. Expensive things, such as Airpods, phones, and even computers are often stolen, which goes to show that lockers are very important, and can store those expensive items without getting them stolen.

Paragraph 4: Space

A small 1-story school is clearly not enough for over 650 kids, so it's a struggle to make space for people to pass, especially in the hallways. If students were able to put their belongings in lockers, it would make it much easier for kids to pass through desk rows without having to trip on a backpack. Also, the hallways can get really crowded with backpacks taking up a lot of space, and at lunch, kids often block the space in-between the tables with their backpacks. Lastly, heavy backpacks can become a weapon, with kids easily falling down, and people being able to swing their backpack at people, causing severe damage. This issue can easily be combated by using the lockers that already exist.

Paragraph 5: Do You Remember?

Do you remember when you could store your things in a locker? Do you remember when you felt a sense of privacy because you could put your personal things into a locker? Do you remember when lockers had a use, and weren't just sitting there doing nothing? These are all memories that are long gone, but you can still bring them back. If we petition for lockers, we can certainly bring them back.
