The Issue

11/6/24 Update: Thank you to all who signed this petition. Unfortunately, the MAB Board was not able to negotiate in good faith and Mawlana Arif Kamal will not be returning to MAB due to disrespect he experienced by the board. In light of recent events, we ask the MAB community at large to support A No Confidence Vote that respectfully asks the MAB board to resign their positions as a result of this incident.

No Confidence Vote - MAB Board

The new MAB board that was elected to represent the community made a disastrous decision that resulted in our respectable and esteemed Mawlana in leaving our community.

Mawlana Arif Kamal has been a dedicated member to the MAB community. His decision to leave immediately after the election of board members shows that the board is not interested in maintaining community ties and not adequately representing the muslim community in Bolingbrook.

The Youth, Young Adults, and Early Professionals have developed stronger ties to not only the masjid but also community involvement because of the efforts of Mawlana Arif Kamal’s motivation to support and connect with them in a way that the community has not seen before.

Mawlana Arif Kamal had dedicated classes that taught the community on many subjects and that saw dedicated community members across all ages to attend and learn proper islamic etiquette. His continued engagement to involve the youth and other members of the community in continued Islamic learnings is a blessing that should not be taken for granted.

Given the ongoing genocide that we are seeing in Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon among others, there is a rise in Islamophobia in America. The last thing this community needs is to lose a strong islamic scholar that would teach us patience from the sunnah of our beloved prophet (SWS). Especially a scholar who has developed a strong connection to our community.

The circumstances that the board created to lose our resident scholar of our masjid is disgraceful, and not a decision that represents the community nor our best interests. We demand that the MAB board immediately take action to retain Mawlana Arif Kamal as the resident scholar of MAB.
