Petition to Ban the Use of Unmarked Vehicles by Privately Contracted Agents

The Issue

To: Local, State, and Federal Lawmakers

From:Concerned Residents and Supporters of Public Safety

                Statement of Concern

Due to the ongoing use of unmarked vehicles by privately contracted agents, fear, intensity, and uncertainty have filled vast ethnic communities and cities across the United States.
These unmarked vehicles cause residents to feel endangered and unsure whether they are being stalked, targeted, or followed by random and unofficial individuals. Their use spreads fear and distrust, damaging relationships between communities and those meant to protect them. This practice undermines transparency and erodes the sense of safety that every resident deserves in their own neighborhood.

                     Our Demand

We, the undersigned, call for immediate legislative and policy action to ensure that all vehicles used on official business by privately contracted agents are visibly marked.

All such vehicles must: Be clearly labeled with visible banners or decals showing the contracting agency’s name.

Display legible identification on both sides—from the front door’s edge to the rear door’s end—at a minimum height of 25 inches.
Maintain visibility during both day and night through reflective or illuminated markings.

Why This Matters:  Unmarked vehicles operated by private agents blur the line between official authority and potential threats. Requiring clear identification restores public trust, transparency, and accountability while reducing unnecessary fear in our communities.

Transparency saves lives and protects civil rights.
