Petition to Ban Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking) for Natural Gas in Nova Scotia

The Issue

To the Honourable House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, in Legislature Assembled:**

We, the undersigned residents of Nova Scotia, draw the attention of the House to the following:

**Whereas:**

1. Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) poses significant risks to the environment, including water contamination, air pollution, and habitat destruction;

2. Fracking has been linked to adverse health effects in communities where it is practiced, including respiratory issues and other illnesses;

3. Nova Scotia is home to unique ecosystems, including sensitive watersheds and agricultural lands, which could be irreversibly harmed by fracking activities;

4. The province has a responsibility to prioritize sustainable energy solutions and protect the health and well-being of its residents;

5. Many other jurisdictions in Canada and around the world have implemented bans or moratoriums on fracking due to its environmental and health risks;

**Therefore, we, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Government of Nova Scotia:**

1. Enact legislation to permanently ban hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for natural gas in the province;

2. Invest in renewable energy sources and sustainable practices to ensure a clean and healthy future for Nova Scotia;

3. Protect the province’s water resources, ecosystems, and communities from the risks associated with fracking.

**Respectfully submitted,**
