Petition to address recurrent power outages in Mnandi, Centurion
The Issue
FORMAL COMMUNITY PETITION
RE: CHRONIC ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE FAILURE – MNANDI, CENTURION
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, employers, and community members of Mnandi, Centurion, submit this petition regarding the ongoing, chronic, and unacceptable failure of the electricity supply infrastructure in our area.
For several years, Mnandi has experienced repeated electricity outages whenever it rains, often lasting:
5–8 hours at a time
Multiple days in severe cases
With increasing frequency and predictability
These outages are not isolated incidents. They represent a systemic infrastructure failure.
Despite repeated fault logging, call-outs, and temporary repairs, the problem continues unresolved, clearly demonstrating that the current response is ineffective.
Impact on Our Community
The consequences of this failure are severe and cumulative:
Businesses and factories are forced to shut down operations, causing financial losses, missed deadlines, and reputational damage
Jobs and livelihoods are placed at risk
Households experience repeated food spoilage, forcing families to throw away and replace meat, dairy, frozen foods, and other essentials at great personal cost
Ongoing food loss undermines household financial stability and increases food insecurity
Food safety risks increase as residents are forced to guess whether food is still safe to consume
Security systems fail during outages, increasing vulnerability to crime
Health and safety risks escalate, particularly for vulnerable residents and food-related businesses
The combined effect of lost income, wasted food, safety risks, and unreliable infrastructure is unsustainable.
Our Demands
We formally demand that Eskom:
Conduct an urgent network reliability and infrastructure assessment for Mnandi
Identify the root causes of rain-related failures
Provide a written technical report
Implement a time-bound, permanent solution, not temporary fixes
Assign a responsible Eskom contact or task team
We are not requesting short-term repairs.
We are demanding long-term infrastructure solutions.
By signing this petition, you support urgent action to restore reliable electricity, protect livelihoods, prevent food waste, and safeguard the Mnandi community.
