The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and stakeholders of the Harrisburg community, respectfully petition the Harrisburg Town Council to prioritize the installation of sidewalks along the following roads: Hudson Drive
Valhalla Drive
Ford Street
Cedar Drive
Williams Drive                                                                                                                               Lakeview Drive These streets are heavily used as cut-throughs by drivers avoiding the traffic light at Morehead Road and Highway 49, especially during peak hours from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. This has led to significant safety concerns for pedestrians, including schoolchildren, families, and elderly residents. While this area is the oldest neighborhood in Harrisburg, it has gone more than 30 years without essential pedestrian infrastructure, even as other parts of town have seen improvements. Our Key Concerns: Pedestrian Safety: There are no safe walking paths for residents.
Traffic Volume and Speed: Increased commuter traffic at peak hours poses a risk to pedestrians.
Neighborhood Equity: Our neighborhood deserves the same safety considerations as newer developments.
Land Availability: Multiple residents are willing to donate portions of their land for sidewalk construction, though existing rights-of-way are generally sufficient for at least one sidewalk per street.
We urge the Town Council to take immediate action and include this sidewalk project in upcoming infrastructure planning or available funding programs (state or federal).
