If you take a close look at Western media, you might notice that there is little to no representation of South Asians despite the fact that these people make up 25% of the world's population. This is because media production in the west  is mostly driven by White people who don't include South Asians in mainstream media. The only exception to this is the stereotypical portrayal of South Asians in the media. It's important for all races to have representation in media because consuming media without representation can alter everyone's perception of the world, affect the self worth of people from marginalized community's negatively, and can erase empathy toward underrepresented minorities.
