Petition to Activision: Allow H2M to Release and Support Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

Petition to Activision: Allow H2M to Release and Support Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

The Issue

I write this petition with a sense of nostalgia and a wish to resurrect the camaraderie and joy that the original Modern Warfare 2 game brought to my life, and to the lives of countless others in the Call of Duty community. Coming home from school, my friends and I found solace, friendship, and entertainment in this game, creating cherished memories that still endure.

Activision, the esteemed triple-A video game production company, has sent cease and desist letters to H2M, a passionate mod team working on recreating Modern Warfare 2. The Call of Duty community today owes much to games like MW2, and the wish to re-experience this game is evident. Yet, this ambitious endeavor is being stomped out by corporate greed.

Activision's decision not only restricts the community's memory-lane trip but also hinders collaborative gameplay growth and evolution. The H2M team's ceaseless efforts to rekindle the magic of the original game and foster a sense of community are being met with needless barricades. It is also worth noting that this recreation is not for profit but to bring together a community that once thrived on this game.

Many of the most successful and enduring games owe their longevity and popularity to vibrant modding communities. Titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto V, and Half-Life have thrived off the creativity and passion of their fans, who continually breathe new life into these games through mods. These communities not only keep the games relevant but also contribute to the legacy of the developers. Call of Duty should embrace this ideology rather than shutting it down. By supporting modders, Activision has the opportunity to cultivate a more engaged and dedicated player base, fostering a legacy that benefits both the community and the company.

By this petition, we urge Activision to rescind its cease and desist order against H2M's recreation of Modern Warfare 2. This action will not only enhance goodwill but also reassert Activision's commitment to their user base's desires and dedication. It's not about in-game purchases, skins, or a battle pass; it's about a trip down memory lane, reliving some of our favorite moments.

Let us remember, game development is as much an art as it is a business. And artworks should always be accessible to those who find happiness, comfort, and a sense of community in them. Sign this petition in a collective call to Activision to allow H2M to revive the game we hold dear.
