Dear Sir / Ma’am,

We, the undersigned, request you to consider & adopt TNR Ordinance for Lyndhurst. TNR program is being adopted by hundreds of towns across the US. Kearny & Secaucus have recently adopted it, and both towns are very happy with the results.

BCAS (Bergen County Animal Shelter) is already contracted with Lyndhurst Township to provide TNR services. This means, feral cats brought in by Lyndhurst residents will be fixed and inoculated for no charge to the residents, if TNR ordinance is adopted. BCAS fully supports TNR. The TNR Ordinance, among many other things, will help with :

1. Humane Reduction of Feral Cat population. Basically, it will allow residents to have the ferals of  their area be ‘fixed’ (spay / neutered) so they cannot reproduce. This will automatically start bringing their numbers down. Kittens & friendly cats will be retained by BCAS - and set up for adoption.

2. Disease Control : Dramatically reduce risk of disease in ferals - they will be inoculated against rabies & distemper by BCAS.

3. Nuisance Control : Reduce roaming of ferals - by restricting TNR-ed cats to approved & monitored zones. TNR Volunteers will also help & educate residents on many easy ways of safeguarding their properties against not just feral cats, but other wildlife like raccoons, groundhogs etc.

4. Free training will be provided to Caregivers, by BCAS, on how to properly maintain their colonies, and prevent cats from wandering to other properties.

The current program is obviously not working, as the Feral cat numbers are not reducing - rather, seem to be increasing. Our neighboring towns Kearny, Secaucus & many others have recently adopted TNR Ordinances. The towns are extremely satisfied with the results . A number of newspaper articles have covered the dramatic control in Feral Cat population observed in these towns.

The cats are not simply released and forgotten about. They will be maintained in proper, regulated & controlled colonies - so that they do not cause nuisance to households that do not want cats visiting their property.

Please visit LyndhursNJ.Net for more details on TNR.

Thank You !
(The undersigned.)
