Why this petition matters

Please add your name and comment below if you DO NOT agree with the recent proposal of 164 (654ft) industrial offshore wind turbines on the Port-au-Port peninsula never installed on land before.  *Please note that we are not disagreeing with the idea greener energy, we are disagreeing with the destruction of our environment & too many risks to over 4,000 residents. The Peninsula is too small to install a wind farm project of this magnitude.

Construction will affect sensitive wildlife areas and protected water supply. The operation of these turbines will also affect many animal species, especially migratory bird colonies (the gannets) and threaten protected environments of endangered plant species and rare flora including but not limited to the Mackenzie Sweetvetch. In addition, we will receive little, if any, benefits from the companies that wish to exploit our beautiful towns and communities on the peninsula for financial gain. As of August 05, Minister Bernard Davis requested an environmental impact statement, and on Sept.29th the Environmental Impact Statement draft Guidelines was released for public review. The 40 day comment will end of Nov.08th, 2022. Please forward your letters of concern to ericwatton@gov.nl.ca.

Questions to consider :
How will this affect tourism?
How will this affect our water supply?
What are the health risks associated?
What benefits will the residents of the Port-au-Port peninsula gain from this? Why is the construction of 164,654ft industrial offshore wind turbines, taking 40% of the land, less than 1klm away from residents being put on the Port-au-Port peninsula? Why not in a non-populated area?
How will this negatively impact residents living near or around the wind turbines?
How will this affect our forestry/wildlife?
