The Issue

To: The Administration and Board of School District 75 (Mission)

Statement of Purpose

We, the undersigned students and staff of Fraserview Learning Centre, are writing to urgently request that Lauralee Lamarche be retained as a teacher at our school. While we are deeply saddened by the loss of funding for the Take a Hike program, we firmly believe that losing Lauralee as a teacher and the Division 6 classroom would be an even greater loss to our school, community, and our futures.

Why Lauralee Lamarche and Division 6 is Essential to Fraserview Students:

Students in the Division 6 classroom came to Fraserview because we needed a different learning experience, Mrs. L gives us that. The student-teacher relationship we have with Mrs. L is so great that if we lost her, it would have a negative impact on some students education. (Including mine)

Removing the Division 6 classroom would lessen the intake of students meaning more struggling students won’t get the support they need to be successful. (Currently we have 125 students, 28 are graduating, leaving 97 students in the next school year. 8 students have tried to get in the school for the 2026 – 2027 school year with only 2 accepted making 99 students in the school, this shows that removing Division 6 removes educational support for those in need.)

Mrs. L empowers us, she gives support, space, kindness, can keep you in check, and most importantly, Mrs. L provides a safe, comfortable, learning space where classroom community feels like family. (Personally, Mrs. L has helped me build independence skills like no teacher has before, I couldn’t enjoy a classroom without Mrs. L as my teacher)

Mrs. L believes in us, any doubts that I or my classmates have had, Mrs. L have had, she has extinguished or tried her best to. (I never believed I could finish school, but Mrs. L has reinstilled that hope within myself, in the matter of finishing school, along with self-belief for life outside of school)

Mrs. L doesn’t only teach curriculum, as a figure of authority she displays dedication, discipline, hard work, to never give up on yourself, and to look for the light in things, rather than the opposite. (Mrs. L has been such an inspiration in my life, she has impacted my education in a positive manner so greatly that I fear I would struggle without her as my teacher.

Our request

The Take a Hike program may be ending due to defunding, but the Division 6 classroom and Lauralee Lamarche’s impact on students transcends any program. We are asking for the school district to keep Lauralee Lamarche and the Division 6 classroom in Fraserview Learning Centre.
