Petition Retailers to Recycle Plastic Gift Cards!

Lancaster, PA, United States
Created April 24, 2012

The Issue

Each year, nearly 75 million pounds of PVC plastic is thrown away in landfills because of plastic gift card waste.

We make it easy to collect and upcycle plastic gift cards into items like park benches through our program.  Many retailers simply don't have a policy on how to handle plastic waste so the cards are thrown away.

75 MILLION POUNDS. That's 130 Jumbo Jets of plastic in the ground each year!   Macy's sold over 57 million cards last year alone!  The problem grows each year as plastic cards continue to grow in popularity as gifts.

We need your help to encourage retailers like Starbucks, Home Depot, Barnes & Noble, Lowes, Walmart and others to adopt gift card recycling policies and collection practices. Many retailers wait to do the right thing until customers share what matters to them.

We'll be sending this petition to the key decision makers at each national retailer as well as Terry Lundgren, Chairman of the National Retail Federation which represents retailers across the country.  Please sign our petition!
