The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and community members, respectfully petition the City of Kamloops to support the development of a dedicated multi‑use facility suitable for agricultural events and dog sports.

At present, dog sport clubs and participants in Kamloops lack consistent access to an appropriate year‑round venue. Training, lessons, and competitions are limited by the availability of rental spaces or private acreage, making it difficult for local organizations to operate effectively.

A purpose‑built facility would provide substantial benefits to the community, including:

Broad accessibility and inclusiveness, enabling participation by youth, seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and dogs of all breeds.
Support for mental health and community well‑being, through programs involving animal engagement, social connection, and potential partnerships with local wellness initiatives.
Economic advantages, as dog sport competitions attract participants from across British Columbia and generate revenue for local accommodations, restaurants, and businesses.
Alignment with Kamloops’ role as the Tournament Capital of Canada, expanding the city’s capacity to host regional and national‑level events.
We respectfully request that City Council consider this facility within future planning, development discussions, and the broader vision of “Build Kamloops.”

"Cactus K9 Agility Club has been offering agility and other dog sport classes in Kamloops since 2018. Despite being an established and active club, we have never had access to a dedicated, year‑round facility to safely and consistently train.

During the winter months, our only option is a cold barn, where practices and classes are frequently cancelled due to extreme temperatures. In the spring, summer, and fall, we rely on the generosity of individual club members who may have enough space to host classes. This requires constant setup and takedown of equipment and limits how often and how effectively we can train.

Cactus K9 is not the only club in Kamloops facing these challenges. Many agricultural and dog sport groups lack appropriate, reliable spaces to practice, train, and host events.

A year‑round Agricultural and Dog Sport Facility would provide a safe, accessible, and consistent location for training and competitions. It would allow clubs to offer more classes, support local participants, and host trials closer to home—benefiting the broader Kamloops community while supporting responsible dog sports and agricultural activities."

We urge the City of Kamloops to support the establishment of this essential and community‑enhancing facility.
