Repave Marple Road and Darby Creek Road in Haverford Township; place them back on the 2014 list of roads to be repaved by Penndot.
Repave Marple Road and Darby Creek Road in Haverford Township; place them back on the 2014 list of roads to be repaved by Penndot.
The Issue
Marple Road and Darby Creek Road - both in Haverford Township - were to be paved in 2014, according to information provided to the Township by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Recently, Penndot has informed the Township that these roads will not be paved in 2014, despite the fact that they in such a state of disrepair that they are both unsafe and undrivable. We therefore request that the Governor and Penndot (of which Mr. Schoch is the Secretary) reconsider their decision to delay repaving these roads and to place them back on the 2014 road paving program.
Marple Road is a major state highway that is used by residents of Haverford and Marple Townships, as well as numerous other motorists. In recent years, the condition of this road has deteriorated so dramatically that it is dangerous to motorists, with numerous residents and others reporting vehicle and other damage; when possible, most people avoid the roads completely. Darby Creek Road is also in extremely poor condition and is equally undrivable.
As the Commissioner of Haverford Township's 4th Ward, in which these roads are located, I (Dan Siegel) have received more than 100 complaints about the condition of the roads since January 2013. My colleagues (other Township commissioners and officials) unanimously agree that Marple Road and Darby Creek Road are in need of immediate repair/repaving.
We therefore request that Governor Corbett and Secretary Schoch reconsider this ill-conceived decision and repave Marple and Darby Creek Roads in 2014, as planned, and as promised.
