2026 Constitutional Review. Add Your Voice Today

South Africa’s Constitution turns thirty years old in 2026. It is one of the most progressive constitutions in the world, but a constitution is only as good as its implementation.

We have been engaged this year in parliamentary processes on the national budget, the Local Government White Paper review, and other governance matters. What we have observed is that several aspects of our constitutional framework would benefit from deliberate review and strengthening.

We are doing a brief survey, presenting BGI’s ideas on a range of questions that are of most interest to us. The survey covers sixteen questions across five themes: electoral integrity, coalition governance, local government funding and support, the structure of the national executive, and constitutional funding guarantees for key institutions.

For each question, we give you our position and ask for your thoughts. Your responses will inform BGI’s submission to the Constitutional Review process. Please also feel free to use the free text box to tell us, in your own words, what you think, and if there is anything else you would like Parliament to attend to. Finally, please share this in your community so more people can participate in shaping the democracy of our dreams.
