Sign Our Petition Objecting To 8​.​83% ESKOM Electricity Price Increase

ESKOM has applied for another increase in the price of electricity that you and I pay. They are asking the regulator, NERSA, to approve an 8.83% increase next year. We have an opportunity to comment on that request and either support or reject it, and communicate as such to NERSA as they consider whether or not to grant the request. 

As the Better Governance Initiative NPC, we have taken a position that rejects the request. Our position is simple. Residents are financially overstretched and cannot afford a further price increase. ESKOM has already been receiving authorisation for increases that are well over inflation for many years, often double. They have also recently announced a R30b bumper profit. They have the money, whilst residents do not. 

Consequently, we have initiated a campaign against the cost of electricity. We are beginning with a petition to bring attention to the issue and will follow it up with further steps, including seeking your direct input into our detailed submission that we will send to NERSA at the end of this month. If you support our call for the application to be declined, please urgently take one minute to sign our petition and share it as widely as possible in your community.
